Lawrence Brittain, Director

 

Lawrence has directed plays by Sean O’Casey, Chekhov, Tennessee Williams, Edward Albee, and Oscar Wilde, and performed the roles of Chebutykin in Chekhov’s The Three Sisters, Peter in Albee’s The Zoo Story, and several characters in An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein. He has also directed or participated in productions of his own adaptations of James Joyce’s The Dead and John Skelton’s The Bouge of Court,  He has written a play based on the Civil War experience of Walt Whitman titled The Wound Dresser, and is a favorite character actor in student films at the small arts college on Long Island where he teaches courses in, among other things, Shakespeare, American & British literature, theater and film history, and where his dramatic readings of Shakespeare, Sophocles, and Homer are a minor legend.
